Praiseworthy Stitches new design is Brother's Keeper - all about Cain and Abel.

Just what we all need - another pair of scissors. These I really like because they look so primitive. I'm not really a gadget girl, but I know I need these. The Devon scissors, with their antique look, are 3.75" with good balance and sharp blades and a retail price under $15.00.

LizzieKate is shipping her auto next Tuesday. Included in the shipment will be her new snippet, Getting Old and part 1 of 4 of the new Double Flip Series, Less=More. Here you see the first chart with 2 designs and below is all 4 parts stitched as one piece. The individual are stitched on 28 lambswool and she shifts to 32 lambswool stitched as one piece. She uses GA: Dungarees, Endive(2) and Old Blue Paint. WDW colors are: Dirt Road, Madison Rose(2), Molasses(2), Pecan, Purple Haze, Romance, Straw(2), and Tarragon. Many of these colors were used in her new A Little Love kit. Also due out, and not pictured, is the last of the Inspirational Boxers series, What We Are.

Lizzie Kate created this beautiful kit for Valentine's Day - A Little Love. Just the right size, it is quick and easy to do. She supplies the linen in the kit. We ordered in the frames and have a small supply available at a very special price. It is a deep frame, so it will stand by itself and would look great on a bookshelf. After all, a piece like this should be displayed all year long.

Above are 2 pictures from Thy Needle and Thread. The top is a preview of April Word Play and the bottom is the March Word Play due shortly in the shop. March is really full of great words that make you imagine the winds of March and all the harbingers of spring.

Widgets and Wool Primitives, is new to the shoppe and coming in are 3 designs lending themselves to sheep. Here is one of them. I thought they were cute and they will be quick as they are smaller in size.

Ever visit Virginia and check out the ponies? Well Carriage House Samplings brings it all back to mind with their new chart Chincoteague. Great for you ladies who like nautical designs for yourself or gifts.

This series from By The Bay needleart of over one designs has been quite popular. She now has Winter out and it will be in shortly. But don't forget, the charts can be stitched over 2 threads, they'll just be slightly larger.

Just Cross Stitch will have new hours. Starting Tuesday February 14, we will NOT be open on Tuesdays. Tuesday Hours will restart, hopefully,   May 1.

I am not ill or have any problems.  For the last 15 years I have run a business. For the last 5 years, I not only ran a business, BUT, the business RAN me. There are things I have to get settled and finished and if I don't 'schedule' these things, they just won't get done. So I decided to schedule them on Tuesday, the least busy day of the week.   I need to get them done and out of my hair. I hope you can understand and bear with me.

All other hours will remain as usual: Wednesday and Friday 10-4

                                                            1st Sunday of month     11-2

The shoppe will be closed on Thursday Jan. 19, 2012. I will be attending the funeral of my cousin and Godmother. She lived a long and active life, almost 95, and she will be greatly missed.

Also wanted to inform some of my inquiring customers, that the wrought iron easels are back in stock. Sold out most of them at the holiday and they are now back in the 5 inch and 12 inch high sizes. Don't assume the 12 inch would be too high -- an 8x8 frame looks good on the 12 inch. Remember, you loose about 2 inches at the bottom for the 'legs' and 2 inches showing over the frame looks nice.

Lila Studio, our local designer has a new chart out this week and here it is - wedding sampler. Don't forget, you could stitch this in any color you might choose. How about stitching it in a color from the wedding?

Just one more thing. My computer is becoming cantankerous and I think it needs to go see the computer doctor. So, I may not be able to get to emails in a timely manner for the next week or so. So use that finger and 'dial' the phone and talk to me if you need something.

New Charts this Week

Isn't he a fabulous Santa? Heaven and Earth Designs released Portrait of Father Christmas in mid December and I just ordered it in. The entire design is completely stitched and is based on artwork by Dean Morrissey. I love Santas and I saw this and knew that I had to have the chart. I may just 'frame' the chart because I don't know when I will have time to do it. It's stitched on 25ct linen over 1 OR 18 count aida. It will finish at at least 16x20 (larger on 18 count).

The next 2 are again for Christmas. I don't know why designers release Christmas charts in December. They should work like retail does and you're always thinking at least 3 to 6 months ahead. Jingle all the way is by The Scarlett House. Simple and primitive. Primitive Greetings by Waxing Moon Designs is also new and either would look great if made into a large pillow.

Bent Creek released Quaker Easter Egg last year. I wanted to do it but the chart sold out. I just got a couple copies back in and I'm going to do it this year. Done on 32 count Summer Khaki, it is stitched with overdyes from both Gentle Art and Weeks Dye Works and will give a finished size of 4x5.

Hope everyone had a Happy New Year. Now it's time to get back to work and stitching. Here's a pic of the February Word Play by Brenda Gervais. It's just as great as the previous months. I'm still working on January but I might skip ahead to February. It is to ship this week. Also scheduled to ship is the last of the BBD 2011 Loose Feathers, Winter.

We had a great time at our New Year Day's Stitch In and I started a new project - the Christmas Garden by Blackbird. I worked on it on Monday and see that tall center design at the bottom? I'm almost finished it. Just a couple red flowers to go and I'm done. Ready to start another motif.

Well, gotta go and start counting my inventory. Thanks to all who helped me reduce it last week.

Speaking of New Year, we will have a free stitch in on Sunday January 1, 2012 from 11-5. Come stitch and have some fun. Bring a goodie to share. I don't know how many are coming, so if you have a chair you could throw in your car, please do so. I have seats for 14 so we may not need the extra chairs but I don't want you trying to stitch standing up.

New charts are still coming out weekly and we have a tentative order for some of the new ones. In 2012 I am going to try and stock more of the new charts which means less room for the older ones. We can usually get you any chart you want as long as it is still in publication. So don't fret if I don't have a particular chart in stock. We'll just order it for you.

The Holidays are upon us whether we want them now or not. I'm working hard to get all my framing done and my finishers are sewing their fingers off to get finished. Somehow, we will.

Christmas Eve hours will be 10-2. New Year's Eve we'll be open at least 10-3. Customers in the shop at 3 PM will not be pushed out the door. We will stay till you are done shopping. We will be closed New Year's Day. We will have normal Sunday hours the next Sunday, January 8, 11-2.

Our annual WE DON'T WANT TO COUNT IT SALE will be Tuesday Dec. 27 thru Saturday Dec. 31. The entire store will be 20 % off with additional savings on selected items. The discount applies to in-store product only, no special orders or previously ordered merchandise. Frequent Buyer Cards will NOT be redeemed or punched.

Overdyed fabrics will be 30% off. A lot of the overdyes have odd shaped cuts left, so take advantage of the sale. Just received notice that January Word Play and the two new Blackbird Design charts are on their way. They were shipped Tuesday and should be here by next Tuesday, the 13th. Can't wait cause I wanna start January Word Play. December's done, October is almost done - I just need to finish the stitching using G.A. Toffee. November will have to get pushed in there somewhere as I definitely want to start January!

New Items

Picked up some new items related to cross stitching and wanted to tell you about them.

This pic shows some 'homespun' fabrics I picked up. They'll be great for backing some of the small pillows, ornaments and pincushions you are stitching. Word Play is a good example and you could use this fabric on some of the Blackbird small pillows and pincushions.

The fabric is prepackaged in fat quarter pieces approximately 18x20 and retailing at $2.50. Check them out today- solids, mini checks, stripes, plaid and prints. One fat quarter piece will back 2 Word Play pillows done on 30ct. And speaking of Word Play, we have rusted bells if you want to add them to the pillow. They are available in packs of 5 and 10 bells.

New to the shop are 'wrought iron easels. They come in 3 sizes: 12 inch, 11 inch and 7.5 inch. Reasonably priced at $5.00 for the small and $8.00 for the large.

Also in, and I have to apologize for the pic, as it was very difficult to scan, is an Amish pincushion, complete with fabric tape measure, a pack of buttons and a rusty safety pin for decor. It's black fabric and attractive with it's odd shape. A great gift for the stitcher who has almost everything.

No Longer a Rumor....

Here's pictures of the two new Blackbird Designs Christmas projects. Christmas Garden is a beautiful sampler. I'm really attracted to this style sampler, full of motifs. You can do lots of extra projects by just pulling out a motif and working with it. Just like they created this small box, you can make small pillows to gather together in a bowl or basket or hang on knobs around your house. Take smaller motifs and create a candle band for the large candles we have today. Just think about all you can do.

Crowning the Tree gives us a new stocking to add to our collection. This one is about 6 inches long so it is larger than the others you may have done from Blackbird. If you want to use it strictly as a home decor item and not just as a tree ornament, think about enlarging it by stitching on a 10 count fabric. You would get a stocking over 8 inches high which you could fill with greens and hang at your fireplace or on the interior side of a door or just anywhere you need a touch of the holiday.

Just think about all the ways you could use these designs. Let your imagination run wild.

It's going to be a few weeks before we get these charts in. Give us a call and pre-order your chart. Distributors should get them the beginning of next week and then start shipping to local needlework stores.

November Word Play

Lisa, an avid stitcher and customer, just emailed me this photo of her November Word Play. Doesn't it look great? I think the bittersweet is really great as it shares the same color with the stitching. She used an old piece of wool for the backing. I've just finished stitching December Word Play (I cheated and jumped ahead so it would be done in time) and I will create a pillow this weekend.

Thought this was great and if any of you have a photo of a piece you want to share, email it to me at the blog address. All stitchers are always interested in what each other is stitching and how it was finished and displayed.

Hope all of you have a great Thanksgiving. Of course, we will be closed that day. We will be open Friday and Saturday normal hours.

The deadline for Christmas finishing is here and gone. So if you are bringing anything in to be framed, I won't be able to promise it for Christmas. Also be aware, we don't do any framing the last week of the year or the first week of the new year.

Speaking of the New Year, we have quite a few interested in the Free stitching on New Year's Day so it looks like it's a go. If you are interested, give a call.

Cricket Collection has released 2 new seasonal charts Christmas and Sugar Cookies. The charts finish between 21 and 26 inches long and are between 4 & 5 inches high.

Brenda Gervais of Country Stitches is a very talented lady. Working in a variety of mediums, her primitive designs in cross stitch are released under the design name of With thy Needle and Thread. Here are 4 new designs: Sampler of the Season - Winter, Boughs of Holly, Merry Christmas to Ewe and December Word Play. They all are now available in the shoppe. For those of you who are working on the Word Play series (a design for every month), we have the fabric available in 30, 35 and 40 count.

I can't believe the weather today! SNOW!!!! Ugh!!!

We were talking in the shop and the old wives' tale is if it snows and a chicken can make tracks in it, the date on which it snowed, indicates the number of snows for the season. So look out - 29 snows for the winter. Oh boy, how I do hope it doesn't come true this year. But it has been so rainy that it just may continue over into snow.

So, if the weather is bad, PLEASE call ahead and make sure I'm here. I will be leaving early today. I get so stressed out about walking in this stuff- I don't want to slip and take a chance of damaging my 'new' knees. I imagine anyone out, today, is buying milk and bread and not really interested in a hobby.

I will be pricing some new charts to the shop from Hinzeit today and tonight I will be twisting Gentle Art threads that arrived today. So take care and stay safe and don't forget to call.

AND I AM INUNDATED WITH BOXES!!

My Big Toe has a new chart called A Very Faint Line that I thought was quite appropriate for some of us stitchers.

Lizzie Kate auto arrived with this new limited edition kit Be Jolly and a new quick , HoHoHo In A Row, that I think would look great finished as a flat hanger and hung on a door or in a green wreath with a big fluffy bow.

The final 3 in the 6 Fat Men series are in. The final Inspirational Boxer is here along with the Winter Alphabet.

Blackbird Autumn, part 2 of Loose Feathers, has arrived along with LHN new Snow in Love ornament and fabric.

Next to be opened is the box from R&R Reproductions containing the Abecedarian Blend for the Word Play charts. Counts for this fabric include 30, 35 and 40 so decide which count you want to use to do your Word Play charts.

Word Play from Country Stitches/New Years?

The October and November charts from the Word Play series are here. Hopefully the fabric will arrive next week in 30, 35 and 40 counts. I messed up and don't have email or phone numbers for a couple of you who signed up for the series. If you did, and I didn't contact you, give me a call or shoot me an email.

Blackbird Designs Autumn has been shipped by my disbributor and I'm looking to have it next week along with LHN's next ornament.

The La D Da Mystery sampler should ship 10/31 for those who have signed up for that series.

The other day I sent an email to all my customers about the 11/6 stitching. While typing the email, I wrote that this would be the last Stitch Night of the Year, and it hit me just how really close we are to the end of the year. 2012 is just about 70 days away! When I was working in the financial world, 2012 used to be my retirement year; now, it's just another year. My Mother always told be to be careful what I do on the first day of the New Year, as I would continue to do it all year long. And that got me to thinking about a possible Sitch Session on New Year's Day. (What could be better than knowing you would be stitching all year!) Anyone interested????
I thought it could be free in exchange for a healthy or non-healthy snack. Hours? Open to suggestion. Please let me know your pleasure so we can make plans.

One Last Fling and Holiday Finishing & Framing

Hey, how about one last fling before the 2011 holiday season hits us! We're holding a STITCH NIGHT, during the day, on Sunday November 6. We'll start at 12:00 noon and stitch thru the afternoon enjoying the company of fellow stitchers and enjoying drinks and snacks. Cost is $10.00.

For those who want to stay thru into the evening, we can talk about ordering some dinner in or bring a sandwich. Stitching will end at 8:00 P.M., or earlier, depending on what you want to do.

Please be prepared to hold your reservation with a non-refundable $5.00 deposit. A credit card number will hold the reservation.

Don't forget for those who live in the area, we have a free stitching on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 6:30 to 8:30. This is a small group and if 2 don't come, sometimes we cancel. So, if you are new to the group, please call first and make sure we are still stitching that evening. Everyone is invited; new and experienced stitchers welcomed!

Here's the long awaited pattern from Blackbird Designs - number 2 of 3 in the 2011 Loose Feathers series. According to Alma, it's currently at the printers and should be in the hands of the distributors in about 2 weeks, who will then send it to the shoppes. So it is on it's way.

Here are some new charts that should be arriving in the shop by early next week. Of course, since I'm a great lover of Quaker, I love the Christmas design. I also like this tea design, since I'm a tea drinker, but I'd get rid of the fringes and maybe just frame it.

Mystery Sampler Coming in October

Lori of LaDDa owns an antique sampler created by Margaret Cottam, aged 9, in 1807. Using this sampler and Lori's unique stype of design, the results are an incredible sampler. This preview pictue shows the bonus piece, included on the first release, and the color palette. There will be 3 patterns in the series. The first will detail the bottom of the sampler and yes, it will be worked from the bottom up! The second release features the middle and the third will complete the piece with the top of the design. The sampler size is 170w x 200h and is stitched on WDW Cocoa linen, your choice of 30, 35 or 40ct. It uses a total of 8 Weeds Dye Works fibers. The first release will be mid October, followed by part 2 and 3 in November and December.

Announcing the arrival of a new montly cross stitch series! The series is beginning with October and will run through September of 2012. Each pattern will release on the 1st of the prior month. These little door hangers are a quick stitch, something to pick up in the morning and stitch as you sip that morning cup of tea.

All 12 months will be worked on the 35 count Abecedarian linen over 2 threads. They will also all be very similar in the finished size of 4 1/2" x 7 1/2".

Jackie O Lantern from Amy Bruecken Designs. We also have a small one of hers called EEk with a witches hat and shoes. Sue Hillis has 2 charts Candy Corn Crazy 1 & 2. Really cute ornaments. Notice the candy corn fabric! It was ordered at market and should be here by Labor Day.

Chart number 3 will be out shortly and you can stitch a type of banner stating B O O using the candy corn shape and halloweeny ribbons.

NeedleWork Press has their Book of Days - a beautiful calendar for 2012 with a couple of charts.

Blackbird Designs have done it again. 4 great charts.

Morning Star works up quickly and can be framed or put on top of a paper mache spice box, with 6 2" high round boxes inside to hold goodies. We hope to have those boxes in the shoppe shortly.

Casting a Spell is just beautiful. Placed in a glass covered wood box it is quite impressive. We should have these boxes shortly, too. Halloween Eve can become two pictures. Just stitch the top alone or even the pumpkin and crow can be done alone. Make two instead of just one. Or how about making 2 pillows for the holiday. The Raven Bewitched is cool. Think I may need to do this one.

She's planning them for every season and holiday. Halloween is in process and, of course, I can't wait till it's out. Each chart also contains a bonus chart. In these 2 they are a mermaid and lobster.

But I really like Santa's Night. Don't want to do it on black, but how about a deep rich blue to look like the night sky? I'm also thinking about using some of the Mill Hill metal snowflakes. Won't have to stitch all those flakes and you'll add some dimension.

I can't keep up with Little House Needleworks. I no sooner get a new ornament in with supplies, then I see a picture of the new ornament coming and then I get confused as to what's out and what's coming. Pine Tree Inn arrived last Friday and now this week we're seeing Baked Goods. Are you stitching the ornaments? How far along are you? I wanted to stitch them each month as they came out and display them this year. Boy I must have been having some sort of manic attack. I haven't finished one, let alone at least 6 of them. Boy was I dreaming!!!

We will be offering a WOOL MITTEN ORNAMENT CLASS, taught by Kathy, on Thursday July 14 from 7-9 and again on Saturday July 16 from 1-3. It's time to start thinking about Christmas and this is a great way to start. Our mittens, shown above, are cut from felted wool. Back and front are stitched together using the buttonhole stitch - very easy to learn if you don't already know how to do it. You will be given lots of ideas on how to decorate your ornament for the class and others you may like to make on your own. We'll also give you ideas on other shapes that will make, easily, into ornaments. The models shown are decorated with a wool heart and a button of your choice. They are enhanced at the cuff with Hot Wire. Hot Wire is made by Kreinik and is a metallic cord around a wire that can create just about any shape you'd like and then is tacked down or glued, depending on the materials with which you are working. Just think of how you can use this new product. It would make great garland on a Christmas tree ornament or decor on a Christmas ball ornament. Ideas just keep coming. Kathy, the instructor, is a quilter of both regular cotton quilts and felted wool quilts and penny rugs used mostly for decoration. You will receive a kit to create an ornament and all necessary materials and lots of ideas. All you need to bring is a pair of scissors that will cut the wool. Additional kits will be available for purchase.

Her boxers this year are a series of Inspiration Boxers. The first one I found very close to my heart and I will do it, probably before the Mystery Sampler: " I know God won't give me anything I can't handle; I just wish he didn't trust me so much!" Just arrived, is the Just Cross Stitch Christmas preview issue. How about getting a head start on your ornaments this year!

Dictionary Series - Chart brings the series to a total of 4, adding to Stitch, Scissors and Needle.
Littlehouse Needleworks brings the next ornament Pine Tree Inn, followed by Silent Night. Her daughter, Country Cottage Needleworks has A Day at the Beach. This is a great chart because you can pull mini pieces from it.

Littlehouse Needleworks is also bringing out Colonial Welcome and her first reproduction sampler Melicent Turner Sampler. She says she is very well pleased at how the repro sampler turned out, afterall, she took out all the 'original' mistakes in counting and using too many threads in a stitch.

Talk about days going from bad to worse. Tuesday didn't start out well at home. Came in and opened; Verizon came about 10:30 to add a second and separate phone line to the shop. He did it. Also told me the work order said I wanted my original phone line moved and he did that. Hour later, I talked to a fellow shop owner in NJ for a few minutes. 2 hours later I called Paula back and she said she was trying to get me for almost 2 hours and kept getting a doctor's office, here in my mall complex and the number coming up on her phone was not Just Cross Stitch but the doctors' office. Well, Verizon had joined my phone service on their line. When the phone rang in my shop, it was answered by their answering machine since it was actually a phone call for their office. Meanwhile I had been on the line with Verizon as I had no internet service.

Called back Wednesday AM at 10 and they promised me it would be fixed by 5 today! How can I operate a business when I have no phone line, no line for charge cards and no internet order to check on new items?????????? Well she was cool, calm and collected and said Verizon was sorry! Believe me, I was not exactly cool, calm and collected!!!!!!!!! Although I did apologize for my loud voice and complemented her on her training that kept her cool, calm and collected and she giggled and thanked me.

Well, if you've been trying to get me, now you know why I haven't responded. I wasn't dead - just slightly out of touch with the rest of the world. I am Back!!!!!

Have you read about Mystery Samplers in some of your groups? Well Brenda Gervais of Country Stitches/With Thy Needle & Thread is bringing the cross stitch world a Mystery Sampler! She has brought us beautiful designs in the past and is continuing to do so this season. This Mystery Sampler will have 3 parts. May 10 is the first scheduled release. This chart will detail the border. It will be followed by 2 charts detailing the alphabet and the middle of the sampler. These are scheduled for release on June 10 and July 10. The Sampler calls for a 35 count Weeks Dye Works confederate grey linen but we will also have the same fabric available in 30 and 40 counts. 18 Weeks Dye Works overdyed flosses (some are multiples of same color) are needed to complete the sampler. If you preorder the 3 charts, fabric and floss I will offer a 15% discount; preorder the 3 charts and fabric and save 10% .

This April we will be having a Trunk Show featuring Lila's Studio, our local designer. If you get Just Cross Stitch magazine, the March/April 2011 issue featured a 2 page spread on Lila, followed by 2 designs and finishing instructions. Lila's samples will be on display and her charts will be available for purchase. They will be on display from Saturday April 16 through Sunday May 1. Mark your calendar and come check it out! This year, to me, is strange and I guess it's all because Easter is so late this year. But you know it is now spring and, if you really admit it, it is time for that thing called spring cleaning. I don't know how many of us do it, but I know I don't do it like my mother did it. But start thinking about 'spring cleaning' your cross stitch supplies. NOW, is the time to start thinking about our STASH TO TREASURE event Memorial Day weekend. We will start accepting donations around mid April. Hey!!! Come check our Lila's Studio Trunk Show mid April and leave your donations for our Memorial Day weekend event.

For those who may not know about our STASH TO TREASURE event, here's what it is all about. We accept cross stitch charts, thread, fabric, whatever as a donation. We'll even take knitting or crochet patterns to rug hooking supplies. On Saturday May 28th, we'll put out all the donations for view by you, the consumer. You come and browse and take home 'new' supplies all for a CASH OR CHECK donation. All monies received are donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This is a great way to recycle your unwanted Stash, which can become someone's Treasure. All for a Good Cause.

NEW RELEASES FROM LITTLEHOUSE NEEDLEWORKS

Here they are!!! Three new releases. The 3rd ornament for 2011 is Deck the Halls and is on its way to my distributor as we speak. Liberty and The Thirteen Colonies should be released very shortly.

Just make a note: If you are going to stitch the Thirteen Colonies, the center looks like it is completely stitched. This could cause problems in framing. To avoid a problem, make sure you use a Q-Snap, or other device, to stitch this area so your tension will not become a problem. If this area is completely stitched, it will not stretch, in the framing process, like the rest of the piece. If it is stitched too tightly, puckers could occur that will not be able to be eliminated in the stretching process. If you take care, you shouldn't have any problem. Just wanted to give you a head's up!

Been talking about new charts arriving, here are some new colors from Zweigart. The photo showing 3 colors are all new 32 Lugana colors. Top to bottom: Pearl Grey, Ash Rose and Silvery Moon. The other photo contains 36 Edinburgh linen Autumn and 16 Aida Opalescent Seaside Twilight. Currently, these new colors are only in the counts listed.

BALTIMORE GARDEN QUILT

The free pattern for the Baltimore Garden Quilt from Handblessings has arrived! The chart is stitched on 28 count coffee Jobelan, which is on order, and uses Gentle Art threads: Spring Grass (3); Red Plum (2); Pine; Cherry Wine; Autumn Leaves; Ohio Lemon Pie; Purple Iris; and Berry Cobbler.

Just a little history on this type of quilt: The Baltimore Quilt applique designs appeared in the 1840's. Unlike the usual scrap quilts, these were made with mostly new material. Each block was completed and signed and then the blocks would be sewn together to create the large quilt.

This Baltimore Garden Quilt is accented with a charm pack but the piece can be considered complete without charms. The pack is available for $14.25 and we have a few available.

Bad news is never good and it is always hard to deliver. If you love primitive stitchery, you probably know the designs of Lisa Roswell from The Primitive Needle. She passed away this past weekend in a freak accident. Her car was swept away by high water in Ohio. This is a good lesson to heed, never ever drive through a 'puddle' if you can't determine the depth. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. She was only 51 and survived by her husband and 3 grown children.

I forgot to tell you in the previous post about our new Thursday hours. The weather has been so bad and cold that everyone has been staying home on Thursday. Littlehouse Needleworks just released a photo of her 2nd ornament for 2011 - Bringing Home the Tree. March's ornament will be Deck the Halls. Two more charts are due to be released in March - Liberty 1776 and Thirteen Colonies (which she describes as 'a big one!')

Hi Everyone! Our Feather Tree class is almost full - room for 1 or 2 more, so call now if you want a space. This tree can be used for Easter, Memorial Day and 4th of July and Christmas. It's very versatile.

The 11th house in the Anniversaries of the Heart series is in from Blackbird Designs. Evergreen Lane is here. The 12th one is to be released next week at the Nashville Market along with A Stitcher's Journey. Packed full of their teaching projects at retreats in 2010, this book weighs in at 52 pages.

Every day we go out searching the web for new designs showing up at Market. We've got quite a list, growing everyday. Designers use this venue to issue new charts. One designer sent me a note, announcing that she would have 10 new designs at market. Of course, this time of year always means new floss overdyed colors- new Weeks, Gentle Arts, Threadworx and Crescent Colours, floss and Belle Soie silks. New fabric colors usually come out at this time. Picture this Plus sent us new color swatches and we've ordered in a couple new overdyed colors from them.

Handblessings did the Piece/Peace Makers Quilt last year. A free pattern each month of quilt patterns. This year she has announced she will be doing the Baltimore Garden Quilt. This is an adaptation of the Baltimore quilt applique designs of the 1840's. It's a block of the month series enhanced with or without charms. I'm quite anxious to see it as I've always been partial to Baltimore style quilts. We will be carrying the free patterns as they are released and charm packs and, of course, the fabric and thread to stitch it. Give us a call or shoot an email if you want to be added to the list for this free series.

FEATHER TREE CLASS INFO

Ice! I hate ice. This winter is going to go down in history as far as I'm concerned.

But on the bright side, got the info for the Feather Tree Class. It is scheduled for Sunday March 20 from 1-4. The instructor, Joanne, says it takes about 2 to 3 hours to complete the tree. So we've scheduled for the max. The cost of the class is $35.00. A $20.00 nonrefundable deposit will hold your seat. I'm surprised at the interest in the class. We've got 7 signed up already, including me. One of my customers, Kathy, emailed me after seeing the tree and said it would be ideal for Memorial Day and 4th of July with Red, White and Blue ornaments on it. I think this is a great idea. So, one more use for the tree.

Came in at noon today and it's been quiet and I've gotten some work done. Going to go home now and stitch a little before dinner. Rest of the week should be pretty good so we'll see you at the SUPERBOWL EVENT on Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 11-2.

Isn't this weather something? Again, they're calling for bad weather Tuesday and Wednesday. Please, call first before coming. I'm terrified of icy conditions. I can't afford to fall, so if the weather people are right, I may leave early or come in late.

Yes! There will be a Superbowl Sale, on Saturday Feb. 5 from 10-4 and Sunday Feb. 6 from 11-2. Everything in the shoppe will be discounted 15%.

This is a picture of a wool feather tree. We are proud to announce that we will be having a class on how to construct this tree. Ours will be 'dirty' white for Easter and any other season you may want to use if for. Stop in the shoppe and see our model. Waiting for confirmation of date and will announce it this week. Space will be limited. It was a lot easier to 'steal' this picture of a pink feather tree than try and photo my model, download it to my computer and put it in the blog! I sometimes get frustrated trying to do this type of thing and this past week has been very stressful, so I took the easy way out!

Going home, now. I've been to the grocery store before the bad weather along with everyone else and I've got to unload the car put them away and then I think I'm going to stitch on my Lizzie Kate Halloween Rules.

Aren't these cute? They are called Just Pins from the Just Another Button Company. We just got these in to add to our autumn, Christmas and Quilt pins. The summer ones are so cute - sunglasses, beach ball and flip flop, all so reminding us that Spring and Summer WILL come and we all need this now, with another storming looming in the near future. These pins are great to use in pincushions you may stitch; as tools for stitching, you could use them as a counter; and we even have the clutch, or earring back, to use on the tip and create a stick pin - remember them?

As for the sheep, the majority are white, but there's always that one in a crowd.

Check them out the next time you come in the shoppe. They are just too cute for words.

A couple of new charts have arrived this week: Ephinea's Snowflakes, makes a beautiful primitive snowflake pillow/pincushion. It's real cute and will stitch up in just a couple of sittings. From Tempting Tangles Designs, we have Panoply of Posies, a Quaker motif sampler inspired by antique motifs gathered over 100 years ago. The floral figures are reminiscent of wild flowers, ferns, herbs and grasses that blanket the meadows and hills of the Swiss landscape.

Hi, Everyone, on this snowy, icy Tuesday. I came in around noon today but it's still a nasty day. Have to show this to you. I am ready!!!! Anxiously awaiting the release of Lizzie Kate's Halloween Rules. My top border is done and will work some more on the sides so I can start stitching when the charts arrive. They are expected to be shipped around the 25th so they should be here by the 1st of February.

Next time I scan a piece in progress, I better press it first so it doesn't look so messy. Sorry, but you can still get a good idea of how it will look.

Blackbird's Pumpkin Farm arrived today. Weeks Dye Work floss is back in stock. I will be twisting the night away tonight. New charts from Hoffman are expected in tomorrow or Thursday.

Hi, Everyone! 2011's been a tough year so far with all this bad weather. Just remember, if you're coming out to the shoppe and the weather is bad or going to be bad, or has been bad, CALL first. With my two bad knees, I don't need to fall and sometimes I may sneak out early or come in late. So, please call first. Thursday night hours may also be affected.

Nashville Market is coming up in mid February. Still a question as to whether I will be going or not. But have no fear! We will still be getting all those goodies that will be coming out. Lizzie Kate has announced her new items and they will be shipped around Jan. 25. A new Halloween Rules is coming, like the Christmas Rules, and a new ABC's of Parenting are among the new charts.

Aren't these cool? The border for the Halloween Rules is available on Lizzie Kate's blog and here in the shoppe. I've picked out a blue/gray fabric to make the picture look more like the tombstone as charted. I have a Sterling overdye from Picture this Plus on order that would also make a great tombstone.....

Littlehouse Needleworks is putting out several new charts as well, including Hillside Travelers, Rosey and the first ornament of the 2011 series, Winter Cardinals.

Also new is Blackbird Designs Pumpkin Farm, which will probably ship at the end of this month.

These are just a few of the new charts due in shortly. We've already gotten in some new ones: By the Bay's New England Winter, depicting a winter scene with a sleigh ride. Heart in Hand's Love Triplet has three small designs: Crush, Be Mine and True Love. The I Do chart would be a nice remembrance for someone special's wedding date.

Hey, Stitchers! I'm still alive. Been a while, but not much new and I've been busy.
The Jan/Feb 2011 issue of Just Cross Stitch magazine arrived and I think it's really great. Several project in the magazine are calling out to me. Here's a couple of pictures of several projects--

Also new to the shop are 2 Christmas charts for future ornaments. Both are from Wendy KC Designs and I can't wait to stitch them. The first is Christmas Humbugs, a trio of easy to stitch and assemble ornaments with a variety of stitches. The second is Christmas Potpourri and I want to stitch the larger project. All the projects can be assembled without the use of a sewing machine.

Don't forget our Christmas Hours: Closing at 2PM on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve; closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day and Sunday 1/2/2011. We will be open Sunday 1/9 from 11-2, instead.

Our Pre-Inventory sale will be from Tuesday thru Friday 12/28-12/31 AND the first week of the new year from 1/4 - 1/9, normal hours.

Hi, Stitchers! Next week is Thanksgiving and the shop will be closed on T-Day.

We will be open on Black Friday from 10-4 for all you avid shoppers. Normal hours will be in effect until Christmas. We willl close early on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve at 2PM. Of course, we will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Since they are on Saturday this year, this will really shorten time for our year end Pre-Inventory Sale. So this year, we'll extend the sale into the new year.

Hi, Everyone! Happy November. Heard on the radio Monday, only 9 weeks till the New Year! Not great news, but it is what it is.

Here are 2 pictures of designs from a new designer from Pittsburgh. Bonny Woomer has 3 charts out: Cabin in the Pines, Nanu's Hankie {(not pictured) and the friend pincushion, which also can be framed. They should be in the mail to me the beginning of next week and I really like them. Hope she continues and we wish her good luck.

Last week, a customer and I were talking about Carriage House Samplings going out of business. We thought she might someday come back with a new name. Well, she's kinda back as of December 1. Kathy Barrick's sister Marty, will assume designing for Carriage House Samplings and she's interested in continuing the Hawk Run Series. Currently, she's an art director for the Washington Post newspaper and an oil painter. We wish her good luck, too, and can't wait to see some of her designs.

New charts have just arrived from Hoffman, so I gotta go and check out the new goodies. Keep Stitching!

Hey Stitchers! How are you? Just wanted to check in and show you some pictures of soon to be arriving charts. The snowman is from Lizzie Kate and is Snowman Snippet '10. He's created in wintry colors of aqua, teal,burgundy, dusty rose, olive green, chartreuse and white. The embellishment pack includes 2 hand-dyed buttons and white crystal beads.

Where's the Party? LK's newest Quick-It includes the chart and golden beads. And, he's very anxious to be invited to YOUR party! Lizzie Kate's new charts should ship to shops on Nov 2.

Littlehouse Needleworks' newest chart - Winter Band Sampler is just lovely. Done on 28ct Clay in DMC's, it looks quite vibrant. I believe it has been released to distributors, so maybe we'll see it Friday on Hoffman's new chart listing.

Hey Stitchers! It's another nice day, before the rain starts again. Oh, but those rainy days are nice for stitching and reading and , of course, napping. But I will be working, so I won't be able to do any of those things. Last night I went to see a one woman show on Mrs. Deborah Franklin, that's right, Ben's wife. It was good. Only an hour, but I got what I thought I would get, lots of new insights into Ben. (Talk about 'absentee' husbands and fathers.)

Got home about 8:15 and spent the rest of the evening twisting overdyed flosses to hang on their little peghooks. Twisted over 300 skeins, so that kept me busy for the evening and I didn't have time to stitch. Just finished LHN new Belle Pepper and am now working on her ornament, All Is Calm.

Here's pics of new things to come. Joy to the World is LHN's 12th ornament. But don't despair, as she will be doing another year of ornaments. Snow White is a monochromatic done on 28 count Rosemary. I have a 32 called Beach Walk that is a good substitute and I think I'll use it.Any color fabric can be used and you can change the floss color if you want.

Blackbird Designs next house is Moonlight Visitor; out in a couple of weeks.

A new designer in the shop is C Street Samplerworks. They do historic reproduction samplers and original designs. I have one of each style currently in the shop. Their original design is real cute, and for me, very appropriate. The second chart is a Quaker sampler, which I still continue to like.

Hi! These are some of the new charts arriving soon. Just above, the two are of the new Blackbird Designs. The left one is Flowers of the Field and includes charts for both the sewing bag and a pincushion. The right one is Waiting for the Harvest - a spooky pincushion stitched on 32 ct R&R American Chestnut with GA Dark Chocolate. Of course, you can not only change the fabric, but you can also change the floss. I did just that on a chart from La D Da called Pumpkins Three. She called for it to be stitched in Black on WDW Havana. I chose to do it on Picture this Plus 28ct with Gentle Art Gingersnap. I wanted something lighter and brighter.

Shakespeare's Peddler's new charts and kits will be arriving soon. Jenny Bean Friendship Sampler and Jenny Bean 2010 Christmas are really nice. The Friendship Sampler has a special Gentle Art Floss packet and we will have them, if you are interested. The Sampler Roundy is a kit. She had a few left over from the St. Charles Market and I ordered just in time.

Isn't this ornament cute? It's Number 11 in the Little House Needleworks 2010 ornament series. I just love it and it is a must do for me. I can see this ornament hanging on cupboard knobs throughout the house and even on doorknobs. This one, for me, isn't just for the tree. Great news for you ornament stitchers, Diane Williams will be continuing the ornaments with a 2011 series.

Hey! It's time for the kids to go back to school and the heat is returning! Wanted to update you on the Labor Day Weekend hours. I will NOT be open on Sunday Sept. 5 but will be OPEN on Sunday Sept. 12 from 11-2. That Sunday will be part of our BACK TO SCHOOL SPECIAL.

This September, we will have an extended BACK TO SCHOOL SPECIAL. From Saturday September 11 thru Saturday September 18, we will be offering 20% off all everything in the shoppe. There are some items we'd like to move, so we will be offering better discounts on those items (some of which are Pine Mountain kits and punch needle supplies and kits). So, start making those lists for supplies you may need. It's time for you to take time for yourself, now that the kids will be back in school.

You may have heard that Crescent Colours was increasing the price on her overdyed threads. Well, the Belle Soie Silks will go up in price, but she recalculated her costs and decided to keep the price of the cotton floss the same.

Hey, Stitchers! There are only 135 days until the end of the year. Do you know what that means? There are even less until Christmas!!! Have you started your Christmas stitching yet? If not, you better decide on smaller items - towels and bread covers are still very useful. Some of the bread cover and towel designs can be made into table runners and bands for baskets and candles and candle jars. These all make good gifts. Make a bread cover and give a fresh baked loaf of bread and a basket or a dozen Chistmas cookies as a small gift to friend or neighbor when visiting over the holidays. Create a band and buy a nice basket and fill with goodies or wrap around that candle jar. Think! Create! You can do it! Create a special ornament for that special friend. I have several customers that come in every year looking for an idea for an exchange with several friends. They create ornaments for those friends and exchange them at their Christmas party. What a great idea. Take a chart you have and pick it apart and create an ornament from just part of the chart. Make your own!!!

Hi! Got another image of the front of the upcoming 2010 Just Cross Stitch Christmas Issue and was able to upload it to the blog. Check it out! I really like the Love and Joy ornament. I always like to check out the front cover and try and guess who the designers are for each ornament. Sometimes I am really way off base with my guesses. But, it's fun anyway.

August is slipping by quickly. It's the middle of the month already. Little House Needleworks has shown her next ornament, Under the Tree

It should be on it's way to the shop early next week.

Hi, Stitchers! Wondering where I've been since it's been so long since I updated my blog? Well, yes, I've been in and out of the hospital again!!!! This is getting old...really old, real fast. This time I was in for cellulitis in my leg. Let me tell you. They told me it's painful, but I didn't believe I could ever be in so much pain. I eventually had to hit the 'hard stuff' and even that didn't really help. I felt like I had a continuous cramp in my entire leg, especially my calf. But thank God, that had 'moved on'! Yeah! I woke up early this AM and got out of bed, carefully, and realized that the 'cramp' was, magically, gone!!!!!!!!! My leg is still sore and swollen and can't be bumped but I feel like I've got myself back. And boy, does it feel good.

On to JCS news. The class we offered in July went very well. We had 6 students and they all did very good learning some new stitches and pulling threads and doing needleweaving. It was fun. I've never done needleweaving and it was so cool to see how easily and quickly you can weave and twist the threads in a piece of needlework.

New to the shop? Prairie Schooler has come out with her 2010 Prairie Schooler Santa. He's a skaker this year. She's put out 4 additional charts. 'Sweeping Cobwebs 'is great for old time looking Halloween characters. ' October' is her "monthly" chart and very colorful with oranges, teals, dark brown, reds and golds. 'And to All a Good Night' has a large sampler full of Christmas designs. The smaller piece would make a cute pillow for the holidays. 'Snowy Nights' is her typical Christmas ornaments on felt.

Hi! Happy 4th of July to all. Just wanted to tell you I will be closed on Sunday the 4th and I will be open on Sunday July 11 from 11-2.

Also, to those who are doing the Piecemaker/Peacemaker Quilt pattern, the next 3 blocks are here for pickup. For those who might be interested in the chart from JBW, French Country Pig, I did it last night in a little over 2 hours. A real quick and fun project.

Hi, again....Just arrived from JBW Designs. Two more charts are added to the Christmas Tree ornament series, Christmas Tree Collection V and VI, both with accessories. A new series, to be finished over the rest of the year is Christmas Village I and II. Old fashioned houses and buildings, with accessories, will create 12 ornaments. The French Country series continues with Fr. Country Fleur-de-Lis and French Country Pig. The pig has been requested and she decided to move it up on the list and here it is for all you pig lovers.

Hi, Everyone! I've got a good reason for not posting recently - I had a brief stay in the hospital. Nothing too serious, but bad enough. But I'm back, and still trying to get caught up with things.

Remember, I mentioned a while ago about an upcoming class? Well here is a picture of the project we will be doing. This piece is hemstitched, which will be an option to you. Other stitches in the piece are, of course, cross stitch, inverted fly stitch, closed chevron and long arm cross stitch, satin stitch and needle weaving. This project will be done on 25 count cream linen.

Class will be held on two nights, July 22 and July 29 - Thursday - from 7-9PM. You will practice on a doodle cloth to learn the stitches. Sign up now as space is limited.

Hi! Here's a preview of the new Lizzie Kate designs, due to ship today. The left is her Christmas flip-it series - Christmas Rules - due out over the next several months. Right is the ABC Halloween kit. These and others should be due in this week.

Also, hopefully due this week, is Blackbird Designs chart and fabric for the Hedgerow birds - the final Loose feathers series chart. It's a bag to carry all the littles you have stitched. It will be done on 20 count straw. We have some of the Crescent threads needed and we are awaiting the Gentle Art threads.

Hi, Everyone. I just got reconnected to the world! My laptop connect device died Tuesday June 1 (less than 30 days out of contract) and I decided to opt out for a 'cheaper' internet connection. It came yesterday and today I hooked it up. Got the wiring right, but a firewall on the modem was keeping me out so I needed technical support. Asked the gentleman where he was from and he said he wasn't supposed to tell me and I guessed Texas (he had quite a drawl) and he said it was a good guess. So I am back. Had well over 125 emails since last Tuesday, so I've been deleting those I knew I didn't want and starting to read the others in the order of receipt. It's taking some time because I do have to stop and help cross-stitchers who drop by.

Hope to have a few pictures up Thursday or Friday on new items. Haven't heard what day Loose Feathers may be here, but I know we are all anxiously waiting for it.

Gotta go. It's after 5 PM and I want to go home and get some dinner. Later tonight I'll pick up some stitching. I'm working on Simple Joys, a new one from Little House Needleworks.

Hi, Everybody! Hope you had a great Memorial Day holiday. I just want to thank all those who donated their precious stash to our Stash to Treasure day. I want to thank all those who came and donated and took new stash home with them and to those who came and just donated.

And now a drum roll please.........to date, we've raised over $1200.00 for St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!

We accumulated so much stash this year, that I decided to leave it in place for the rest of this week. So, donations will still be accepted. And don't think, for on moment, we don't have some good stuff left. We do! Now, I've got to decide where to donate what will be left. If any of you know of any organization that can use craft items, please let me know. This is good stuff and is still usable.

Well, I just got in an order of Weeks Dye Works, so I need to check it in and then twist, twist, twist.

It's almost the holiday! Yeah! But hey, wait a minute! I always have Monday's off, so really it's just another Monday to me. But, I tell myself I don't have 'to work at home', I can sit and read and stitch! Yeah!

Dimensions have put out a few new Gold Collection stocking kits and I've fallen in love with them and just HAD to get them into the shop. They are here and here's a few pics. Six new stockings came out, one is on backorder. Sorry the pictures didn't turn out so good. The left one is Christmas Sled Stocking Kit and the right is Holy Night Stocking Kit. The others available are Snowman and Friends and Santas Toys and Santa and Snowman. Naughty or Nice is the one on backorder. Blackbird Designs has announced that the last Loose Feathers design - a bag to hold the goodies - is finished and should be in shops around mid June. Here's a picture.
